The Big Macadamia Nut Woombye

THE BIG...

MACADAMIA NUT

LOCATION: Woombye (QLD)

This massive nut was built in 1978 — expanding a small theme park that had begun with the Big Pineapple.

The nut once housed a macadamia nut factory and was surrounded by rainforest and a small animal farm.

All of that closed in 2013. The nut now serves as an entrance to a high ropes course...

...and yes, of course some of #TeamALPHABET went for a climb!

MACKAW

LOCATION: Apple Tree Creek (QLD)

This 'spectacular' Big Mackaw (???) was a fabulous accidental discovery!

You'll find this massive bird perched outside the Flying High Bird Sanctuary in Apple Tree Creek — which is apparently well worth the visit (but... we had no time!).

We didn't discover this Big Magpie until our second drive through beautiful Miriam Vale!

This enormous "Kensington Pride" mango has been proudly greeting visitors to Bowen since 2002.

There's even a 'mini me' version somewhere close to the beach — but we missed that (ah well, NEXT VISIT!).

The Big Merino Goulburn

THE BIG...

MERINO 🐏

LOCATION: Goulburn (NSW)

This Big Merino is one of (if not THE) most famous BIG THINGS in Australia.

This enormous (and rather detailed) sculpture was unveiled in 1985. It was created to celebrate the two century old fine wool industry that the surrounding region is known for.

The Big Merino is affectionately known as Rambo — in honour of a real stud ram (that passed away in 2020).

(The picture below is a view from inside Rambo's head — out through his eyes!)

Meet Arnold! A gigantic Murray Cod — and the pride of Swan Hill!

Arnold was built as a prop for the movie "Eight Ball" — which is (in part) about the building of a giant tourist attraction!

(We need to watch this movie!)
