PAINT BRUSHES AND POT 🎨
LOCATION: Redland (QLD)
This brightly coloured paint pot and brushes was discovered outside a pottery studio in Redland (a suburb of Brisbane).
We almost walked straight past this one, BUT, we're very glad we noticed it — and added it to our collection!
LOCATION: Dunedoo (NSW)
Ever since 2008, the town of Dunedoo has erected a set of Big Pencils to promote a local art show. The pencils were put up and then packed away each year...
...until 2013 — when a permanent collection was put on display!
LOCATION: Shepparton (VIC)
How sweet is this Big Peach!
At least we think it's a peach? It could be a nectarine? Or an apricot? We're pretty sure it's a stone fruit of some sort!
PELICAN HEAD (plus CRAB!)
LOCATION: Batemans Bay (NSW)
This Big Pelican Head is an artwork known as the "Pelicant". Nice pun there — worthy of Noel himself!
We love the brilliant comedy of this piece, with the bonus Big Crab balancing on the pelicans beak! Faaabulous!
LOCATION: Hamilton (VIC)
Very close to the theatre where #TeamALPHABET performed in Hamilton, we found this Big Pie!
We can also report that the baked goods at King's Bakery — under which which this beautiful golden pie can be found — were absolutely delicious!
PINEAPPLE #1 🍍
LOCATION: Woombye (QLD)
This Big Pineapple is one hundred percent a Queensland icon!
In fact, it's so iconic that in 2006 it was heritage-listed as a state icon by the National Trust!
This fabulous monument once stood out the front of a bustling 'tourist trap' — but now stands (a little embarrassed) beside a tiny coffee shop. We stopped and made sure we bought a fridge magnet for our growing collection...
We are looking forward to some budding entrepreneur taking over the site in the future so this icon can rise again!
PINEAPPLE #2 🍍
LOCATION: Woombye (QLD)
This Big Pineapple above may be the BIGGEST of the Big Pineapples, but it's not the only one!
This second pineapple sits at a service station in Ballina — advertising a fruit and vegetable market.
AND, there also used to be another in Gympie. But, sadly, that one is long gone...
LOCATION: Buronga (NSW)
A little bit of Egypt in regional NSW?
It would seem so!
This anachronistic monument can be found outside the Edge Motel in Buronga (NSW) — where the restaurant is affectionately named after Tutankhamon.
LOCATION: Ringwood (VIC)
How awesome is this MASSIVE box of popcorn?
This box full of deliciousness was discovered at the Karralyka Centre in Ringwood.
LOCATION: Tynong (VIC)
This Big Pheasant (a golden pheasant) stands proudly at the entrance to Gumbuya World.
This giant bird is almost as old as Professor Noel Edge! It was erected in 1978, while Noel was born in, well... he'd prefer we didn't tell you the exact year!
LOCATION: Ballina (NSW)
FUN BIG PRAWN FACT #1
The Big Prawn is 30,000 time larger than a real prawn.
FUN BIG PRAWN FACT #2
This monument was built in 1989 — without a tail! The tail was added in 2013 at a cost of $400,000!
FUN BIG PRAWN FACT #3
This fantabulous prawn was designed by sculptor James Martin — who had previously worked on Taree's Big Oyster.
We could keep adding facts about this fascinating prawn... BUT we're running out of room!
LOCATION: Gumlu (QLD)
We don't know a huge amount about this beautifully crafted Big Pumpkin, other than it can be found outside of a fruit and veg shop in a region famous for producing pumpkins (as well as watermelons).
Any farmer would have to be pretty proud to produce a pumpkin of this size!
