The Big Kangaroo Matilda Traverston

THE BIG...

KANGAROO #1 🦘

LOCATION: Traverston (QLD)

It's MATILDA!

This giant roo was built to take part in the 1982 Commonwealth games — held in Brisbane.

Ever since then, she has bounded around Queensland, until finding her forever home (at least for now!) at the Traverston Service Centre.

Look at those lashes!

KANGAROO #2 🦘

LOCATION: Charleville (QLD)

This was another (very) accidental (yet wonderful) discovery for #TeamALPHABET!

Like the kangaroo above, she is also known as 'Matilda'. Maybe in homage to that iconic BIG THING?

We discovered her in the centre of one of the main streets of the outback Queensland town of Charleville.

(Just be careful not to stare into those eyes for too long — yikes!)

KOALA 🐨

LOCATION: Dadswell (VIC)

Well, we absolutely knew this 'sculpture' was on our tour path — but nothing quite prepared us for the quiet horror that is the BIG KOALA!

Just look at those eyes — like the kangaroo above, there's a certain something odd going on there! (Also, in this case, lasers!).

We know there's another BIG KOALA out there waiting for us, and we can't wait to meet it!

KOALA 🐨

LOCATION: Gundagi (VIC)

The discovery of this Big Koala was a TOTAL accident! We stopped to visit the "Dog on the Tuckerbox" and happened to notice this cute fella in the distance...

We were thrilled to be able to add a SECOND (not so evil looking!) koala to our BIG THINGS list.
