Created in 2018, this Big Sardine Tin is a relatively new Aussie Big Thing. We are so glad we stumbled across it — It's stunning!
This work of art was created for the Festival Ephemera — representing that the festival is always open to new ideas!

LOCATION: Adelaide (SA)
The Big Scotsman is an ICONIC Adelaide monument — and THE oldest BIG THING in Australia! Many say that "Scotty" began the BIG THING craze in the Land if Aus. And for that, #TeamALPHABET says a BIG THANK YOU!
This big fella was constructed to bring attention to Scotty's Motel — a job that he has been (very successfully!) since 1963!

The entrance to the Port Lincoln Caravan Park in North Shields (just outside of Port Lincoln!) has a rather fearsome entrance...

This massive sculpture was created by artist Xavier Pinard. It welcomes visitors to the town of Chiltern — representing (and celebrating) the towns gold mining history.

We discovered this Big Slouch Hat above a community centre in Mackay.

Snoopy!
He is one of FOUR concrete monuments to be found in Old Mulherin Park (Mackay).
We don't know much about these sculptures, other than that they have all been around since at least the early '80s (and that they are beloved by locals).

Wowsers... that's a LOT of soup!
This 10m tall soup can was built in the 1960s — and is actually a functional water tank. The dimensions of the tank replicate those of a an actual soup can...

STRAWBERRY #1 🍓
LOCATION: Hahndorf (SA)
This was a very dangerous stop for #TeamALPHABET — given that this fabulous Big Strawberry was surrounded by roughly a billion conserves and relishes and other delicious condiments!
Let's just say, the Beerenberg Farm shop is a excellent place to stop and spend some time (and money!).
Oh, and at certain times of year you can go strawberry picking! (We can't wait to go back!)

We found another strawberry...
... and this one was a legit GIANT!
Like the strawberry in Hahndorf above, this big fruit was accompanied by a shop containing many fabulous treats! YUMMO!

SWAN 🦢
LOCATION: Dunedoo (NSW)
This is the story of the ugly duckling that turned into a beautiful swan — that then turned into a, well... We're not quite sure what this is anymore!?
But, we think this Big Swan is sensational!
The name of this town — Dunedoo — is most likely derived from the Wiradjuri word for 'swan', which are common in the lagoons of the area.

This sensational ear of corn is called "Ollie the Sweet Corn Cobber" — and he can be found beside his best mate "Henry the Mango Man" (in Home Hill).
